Richard Martin is the Executive Chairman of Sequent and its controlling shareholder. Richard led the purchase of the former Rothschild Trust Group from Rothschild & Co in February 2019.

In the 15 years prior to the buyout, Richard Martin held a number of senior positions with Rothschild & Co including Chief Executive Officer, Australia, Group Chief Operating Officer (reporting to Baron David de Rothschild, then Executive Chairman), and latterly Co-Head, and Chief Operating Officer of its Wealth Management and Trust Division. He was a Global Partner of Rothschild & Co, and was a longstanding member of its Group Executive Committee responsible for the management of the firm, globally.

Richard has had broad experience in senior positions in wealth management, fiduciary services, investment management and private banking and in his earlier career, trade and structured finance and corporate and private client lending.

In various senior executive roles, Richard has gained deep experience in strategy development, business creation, business performance management, legal and regulatory issues, risk management, stakeholder management and people and culture.

In the past 35 years, he has lived in Australia, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong, and England. He has worked with businesses and private clients in Australia, Asia and Europe. Richard attended the International Management Programme at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France and the Executive Development Programme at Harvard, in the US.
